Why he might be annoying
He did not want liberal whites involved in his struggle against apartheid.
He believed that even the most liberal white may try to see how he benefits from apartheid.
It is not really clear if his full name is Bantu Stephen Biko or Stephen Bantu Biko.
Why he might not be annoying
His phone was tapped by the police.
In the 1970s, he was not allowed to speak with more than one person in public.
He was beaten to death by police in Port Elizabeth.
Instead of sending him to a hospital in Port Elizabeth, they sent him to a hospital in Pretoria, where he was dead on arrival.
He died naked.
The police lied, claiming that he died from a hunger strike.
The surviving police at the time of his assassination were denied amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Committee.
However, they got away with murder. The South African Justice Ministry announced that the surviving policemen would not be prosecuted because of lack of evidence or witnesses.
Also, because the assassination occurred in 1977, the time frame for prosecution had expired.
He had a medical degree but could not practice because of apartheid laws.
He said: 'A black person is human, not inferior. A white person is human, not superior.'
After his murder was revealed, many countries put sanctions on South Africa.
His life and death inspired the Peter Gabriel song, 'Biko' (1980).
It also inspired the Richard Attenborough film, 'Cry Freedom' (1987).
