Bowler

The Resume

    (December 23, 1929-February 13, 2005)
    Born in Indianapolis, Indiana
Founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA)
    Won 30 PBA Tour events
PBA Player of the Year (1965)
Inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame (1975)
    Father of bowler Pete Weber

Why he might be annoying:

His wife Juanita commented, 'If it came down to a choice between bowling and family... Dick, as happy as we have been, would've given up [me].'
He did a lot of wacky stunts to promote the sport, such as bowling on a lane set up in a cargo plane to claim a record for 'highest game.'
He proposed the PBA rule change that allowed high school grads under age 18 to join the tour; the first beneficiary of the new policy was his 17-year-old son Pete.
He explained his decision to come out of retirement by noting, 'I'm a ham. I love the autographs. I love the attention.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Presumably he never had to choose between bowling and Juanita, since they were married for 56 years until his death.
Sports Illustrated noted, 'Whether he wins or loses, Weber, like Arnold Palmer, will mesmerize the masses.'
He made a number of appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, where he would roll a ball into odd items, like TV sets or bowls of eggnog.
He was named best bowler of the 20th century by Bowling Magazine (1999).
