Why Alaska might be annoying:

    It had several major earthquakes above 8 on the richter scale and some above 9.
    To honor becoming a state, the people dumped a chemical in the Chena River to change the color to gold, however it just turned everything green.
    A map maker not knowing the name of a particular Alaskan city wrote 'name' as a note, when the publisher saw this, he misread it as Nome, and that is how Nome got it's name.
    Humorist Will Rogers was killed in a plane crash in Alaska (August 15, 1935).
    The worst US oil spill, Exxon's Valdez spilled 11.3 million gallons off the Alaskan coast (March 24, 1989).
    Debate on making Alaska a state began in 1916, and it took 43 years for it to become one.
    The last shot of the Civil War was in Alaska waters by Confederate Cruiser Shenandoah, when a Union Whaler did not realize the war was over (June 22, 1865).
