U.S. Senator

The Resume

    (November 19, 1939- )
    Born in Cumming, Iowa
    Democratic U.S. Senator from Iowa (January 3, 1985-January 3, 2015)
Democrat from Iowa's 5th Congressional district in the House of Representatives (January 3, 1975-January 3, 1985)

Why he might be annoying:

He unsuccessfully ran for President (1992).
He was one of the only Senators to support Russ Feingold's censure of George W. Bush.
He generates a lot of support from organized labor, making him unpopular with business savvy Republicans.
He was on stage with Howard Dean when Dean made his infamous 'scream' speech following his Iowa caucus victory (Harkin's name was mentioned in the speech, too).
Some conservatives insist he lied about his military service during the 1960s.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He graduated Iowa State University.
He served for five years in the United States Navy.
He was the chief sponsor of the landmark American with Disabilities Act (1990).
Although his Presidential campaign failed, he managed to win his home state's (Iowa's) caucus.
He's generally supportive of women's rights, civil rights and gay rights causes.
