Auto Racer

The Resume

    (July 29, 1981- )
    Born in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain
Full name was Fernando Alonso Diaz
    Formula One racing driver
    Nicknamed 'El Nano'
Two-time Formula One World Champion (2005-06)
Won the Formula One German Grand Prix (July 22, 2012)
    Drove for Minardi (2001), Renault (2003-06, 2008-09), Ferrari (2010-14) and McLaren (2007, 2015-)
Youngest back-to-back World Champion in Formula One until Sebastian Vettel's second championship win in 2011

Why he might be annoying:

His fans nicknamed him 'Magic Alonso.'
He has been accused of brake testing on more than one occasion.
He shares a name with Cuban prima ballerina, Alicia Alonso's dancer husband.
His attempts to cross over into professional cycling never really took off.
He has a reputation for not always being gracious in defeat.
He has a tattoo of an ancient samurai on his back, outlining his well-toned back muscles.
His fans engaged in racially-charged harassment of Lewis Hamilton, donning Afro wigs and black face paint when he came to race in Spain.
He didn't help matters much by appearing largely antipathetic to the racial tone of the attacks on Hamilton, in one interview implying his behavior brought it on himself and saying 'that's the sport.'
Until that point, the one-time McLaren teammates had enjoyed a comparatively more benign rivalry; once doing a clever Mercedes commercial depicting them trying to outlast each other in a sauna to the music of a really off-key rendition of 'Anything You Can Do' (with Finnish racer Mika Hakkinen trumping the both of them).

Why he might not be annoying:

He is of humble origins -- the son of a department store clerk and an explosives factory mechanic.
He idolizes Ayrton Senna (then again what racer doesn't?)
He is the third youngest driver in Formula One history to start a Grand Prix (Australian GP 2001).
He is the second youngest driver to win a Grand Prix (Hungarian GP 2003), and take a Pole Position (Malaysian GP 2003).
He received the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports (2005).
Jenson Button described him as a more consistent Formula One competitor than Lewis Hamilton.
Racing fans still wax sentimental over the Hamilton-Alonso 'bromance' that never really fully came to fruition.
His words were parceled after he refused to call his home country an inherently 'racist' nation. He made clear in the same interview that any racial attacks on Hamilton were indefensible in his view.
As of 2016, he is the only Spanish driver to have won a Formula One Grand Prix.
He also holds the sixth highest number of Grand Prix wins, 32 as of 2016.
He temporarily lost over twenty years worth of his memory after a 2015 car crash (emerging from his comatose state believing that it was 1995).
He suffered a collapsed lung and broken ribs when his McLaren car crashed into a concrete barrier at 180 mph and virtually disintegrated during the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne (Mar. 21, 2016).
