Best known for the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (October 26, 1881)
Why he might be annoying
He fled the state of Missouri after being arrested for stealing horses (1871).
He was arrested in Peoria, Illinois, for running a brothel (1872).
He was fired from the police force of Wichita after getting into a fight with the former marshal.
One of the men killed during the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Tom McLaury, may have been unarmed.
He greatly exaggerated his exploits to his biographers.
Why he might not be annoying
Gunslinger Bat Masterson said, ‘No man can have a more loyal friend than Wyatt Earp, nor a more dangerous enemy.’
He inspired a large number of Hollywood movies.
Western stars Tom Mix and William S. Hart were pallbearers at his funeral.
