The Resume

    (April 10, 1980- )
Born in New York City, New York
Producer for 'The Kids are All Right' (2010), 'Meet Monica Velour' (2010), 'Save the Date' (2012), 'Grounded' (2013), 'Are You Here' (2013), 'The Keeping Room' (2014), 'Miss Stevens' (2016), 'Little Boxes' (2016), and 'The Master Cleanse' (2016)
Best known for producing the musical-drama 'La La Land,' which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture (2016)
Attained unintended viral celebrity when 'La La Land' was mistakenly announced the Best Picture winner, snatching the card out of presenter Warren Beatty's hand to show that 'Moonlight' had - in fact - really won (Feb. 26, 2017)

Why he might be annoying:

    He looks like Louis C.K.
His first project was an Annette Bening drama about artificial insemination.
He frequently collaborates with his wife on projects.
Speaking of nepotism, he's frequently mistaken for a relation to the film's Oscar-winning composer, Justin Hurwitz (only when the names are spelled out does it become clear they aren't).
He commandeered the stage mic after the mistake about the Best Picture winner became known, grabbing the envelope from Beatty before he had a chance to explain (host Jimmy Kimmel was visibly annoyed at the affrontery).

Why he might not be annoying:

He is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
His debut film 'The Kids are All Right' won the Golden Globe for 'Best Musical or Comedy' (2011).
He played basketball for his local Jewish temple in New York (on the same team as 'La La Land' colleague Fred Berger).
He and Berger eventally took up for Damien Chazielle's 'La La Land' when few - if any - producers were interested in doing it.
He has attested to 'La La Land' being both a collaborative effort and semi-autobiographical, pulling from their own experiences trying to 'make it' in Los Angeles.
Despite losing the Best Picture Oscar, 'La La Land' did win the Golden Globe for 'Musical or Comedy,' in addition to amassing a record number of Oscar nominations equaling 'Titanic' (not bad).
He later explained his decision to announce the mistake by saying: 'I wanted to make sure the right thing was done... That moment on stage was not about anything but moving the spotlight to where it should have rightfully been.'
He handled the shock with amazing grace and humility, inviting the 'Moonlight' team onto the stage to hand them the statuettes which were 'rightfully theirs.'
He chose not to be bitter about the loss even on the next day, not only tweeting that 'Moonlight' was beautiful, but telling GMA, 'I want to make sure that we’re all talking about the fact that a $1.5 million picture about gay black youth in America won best picture at the Academy Awards. That’s a pretty sensational thing.'
He was praised on Twitter by Jeffrey Wright, John Podhoretz, and novelist Seth Grahame-Smith ('@jehorowitz just handled a complete train wreck with dignity and grace on the biggest stage in the world').
His action was a breath of fresh air for cynics accustomed to shiftiness and self-serving dishonesty from figures in the public spotlight.
