    Most well known for adapting episodes of Star Trek TOS for collections of short stories
    Wrote first original Star Trek novel, 'Spock Must Die!'
    Wrote the Cities in Flight and After Said Knowledge novel series and Haertel Scholium and Pantropy short stories
    He once worked for the tobacco industry as a propagandist.
    He used a pseudonym, William Atherling for his literary criticism.
    We have him to thank for the endless number of Star Trek books which inspired the endless number of Star War books.
    Ironically, in view of his working for the tobacco industry, he died of lung cancer caused by his smoking.
    Regardless of the pseudonym, he was an excellent critic.
    His novel and short story series were far better thought out ahead of time than most sci-fi series.
    Much of his work, like the Cities in Flight books was incredibly original and had no type of genesis in previous sci-fi.
