Why he might be annoying
He once worked for the tobacco industry as a propagandist.
He used a pseudonym, William Atherling for his literary criticism.
We have him to thank for the endless number of Star Trek books which inspired the endless number of Star War books.
Why he might not be annoying
Ironically, in view of his working for the tobacco industry, he died of lung cancer caused by his smoking.
Regardless of the pseudonym, he was an excellent critic.
His novel and short story series were far better thought out ahead of time than most sci-fi series.
Much of his work, like the Cities in Flight books was incredibly original and had no type of genesis in previous sci-fi.
