    Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra (1936-1980)
    Award Presidential Medal in Honor in 1970
    Appointed Honorary Knight of the British Empire in 1976
    Awarded Kennedy Center Honors in 1982

Why he might be annoying:

    His father wanted him to be a world class violist, but he disobeyed him.
    No one knows why he choose Ormandy as his Americanized name.
    He cried when he received the Presidential Medal in Honor award.
    His birth name was 'Jenő Blau.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a child prodigy and graduated with a master's degree at 14.
    Taking off from what Leopold Stokowski started, he made the Philadelphia Orchestra one of the great Orchestras in the world.
    Despite being Hungarian born, he would later become as Philadelphian as the Liberty Bell or the cheesesteak.
    Since his 44 year reign over the Philadelphia Orchestra ended, the group has never been as acclaimed and lost their unique sound.
