Hockey Player
    (April 27, 1988- )
    Born in Kuybyshev, Soviet Union
Drafted 23rd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft
Goaltender for the Washington Capitals (2008-2011) and Colorado Avalanche
His name sounds too close to that of the bodily fluid.
Despite elevating his game in the playoffs, he posted average numbers during the regular season.
Many hockey pundits felt he would refuse to play in North America and remain in Russia after the Capitals selected him in the first round.
Prior to the 2009-10 NHL season, his name was often misspelled in media guides (ie. Simeon, Semen, Semyen, Simyan, Simyon).
He speaks with a brutal Russian accent.
He turned himself into the police after being charged with third degree assault and kidnapping (October 30, 2013).
He was a standout goaltender in the Russian Super League during his developmental years.
After replacing Jose Theodore in Game 3 of the Capitals first round series, he guided the team to a comeback series victory over the Rangers and a near series victory over the Penguins (2009).
His mask with the Capitals pays tribute to his homeland of Russia on one side and Mt. Rushmore on the other.
He was given the Caps starting goaltending job following his performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs the previous season.
He served as the backup goaltender for Russia at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
