The Resume

    (September 11, 1916-July 13, 2018)
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey
    Birth name was Nanicia Barbato
    Formerly employed as a secretary
First wife of Frank Sinatra (1939-51)
Mother of Nancy Sinatra and Frank Sinatra, Jr.
Separated from her husband in 1950, after his extramarital transgressions with Ava Gardner were made public
Remained on good terms with her ex-husband until his death in 1998
Portrayed by Gina Gershon in the CBS miniseries 'Sinatra' (1992)

Why she might be annoying:

She got Frank a job working with her father's plastering company, but he quit.
Frank married her out of financial necessity and was never all that crazy about her (in a romantic sense anyway).
Her old girlfriend Marian Brush claimed that Frank 'looked like the saddest man I've ever seen' (Nancy mistook it for a 'completely gone' expression of happiness).
Her husband cheated on her left, right, and sideways after they moved to Los Angeles (and probably before then).
She naively believed that she could change Frank's philandering ways and get him to return to Hoboken with her.
The stress got to her so badly that when her husband was visiting Cuba, she had an illegal abortion of their third child (1946).
They announced their separation on Valentine's Day.
Google searches for her name usually turn up content related to her more famous daughter of the same name.

Why she might not be annoying:

She is the matriarch of the Sinatra family dynasty.
She was the fourth of eight kids.
She first met Frank after she agreed to give him a manicure in exchange for him serenading her with his ukelele.
She was one of the few people in Frank's life to both believe in his dreams and encourage him in it.
This was evinced when he took her to a Bing Crosby concert and turned to her, declaring that it would one day be him (that she didn't laugh outright in his face scored her major points).
She got along well with Frank's family, who knew her to be a thoughtful and sweet girl (they spent more time with her than he did in the first few years of the marriage).
In later years, Frank admitted to regretting his leaving her for Ava.
She remained on unusually good terms with her ex-husband, even overseeing his lavish 50th Birthday Bash in December of 1965.
Her wedding present to Frank was a record of 'Our Love' he had recorded (he gave her a bag of jellybeans with a diamond watch inside).
Her husband said of her ' I was a poor lonely discouraged kid when I met her. In Nancy I found beauty, warmth, and understanding. Being with her was my only escape from what seemed to be a grim world.'
