The Resume

    (February 14, 1947- )
    Born in Nashua, New Hampshire
    Congressman representing New Hampshire's 2nd District (1981-89)
    Governor of New Hampshire (1989-93)

Why he might be annoying:

He was one of many politicians voting for the war in Iraq who had avoided serving in Vietnam.
He and members of his family personally profited from earmarks that he secured to redevelop Pease Air Force Base into an industrial park; Senator Gregg's take was over $200,000.
He was the principal Republican negotiator of the TARP program to bail out financial institutions at a time when he had a multimillion dollar investment in Bank of America (2008).
He agreed to be nominated for Secretary of Commerce despite having voted to abolish the Commerce Department in 1995.
He won $850,000 in the Powerball lottery (2005).

Why he might not be annoying:

As governor, he left New Hampshire with a $21 million surplus.
In the Senate, he was a consistent supporter of reduced government spending and lower taxes.
He was one of seven Republican Senators to break with the party and vote against a proposed Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage (2006).
He was the stand-in for Al Gore and John Kerry in George W. Bush's practice sessions for the presidential debates.
His wife Kathleen was abducted at knife point by two robbers who drove her to an ATM, where she gave them money before escaping (2003).
