Why Prohibition Party might be annoying
They were a single-issue party.
They were the Green Party of the 1800s.
They fight for an unrealistic goal.
Like the fundamentalist Christians of today, their influence in public policy was greater than their actual electoral strength.
It was nearly wiped out by the 18th Amendment.
Prohibition caused a significant rise in organized crime, speakeasies, bootleggers, alcohol consumption and the Kennedy family.
They continue to fight for the only amendment that had to be repealed (by the 21st Amendment) because of its colossal failure.
Earl Dodge has ran for president six times under its banner and caused a rift in their already insignificant party membership when he ran again despite not being nominated officially by the party (2004).
According to anti-Dodge prohibitionists, Earl Dodge was nominated for president in his living room (2004).
Though a significant portion of its membership was women, where would you go to meet them?
What kind of lame party doesn't have alcohol?
Why Prohibition Party might not be annoying
They are no longer significant.
They almost caused Grover Cleveland to lose his own home state.
They also (though to a lesser degree) promote racial and gender equality, religious freedom and a clean environment.
Party member Susanna M. Salter of Argonia, Kansas was elected the first female mayor in the United States (1887).
It is the third oldest, still active, political party in the United States, behind only the Republican and Democratic Party.
Its members would make great designated drivers.
