It was burned down during the Civil War by the Union troops.
It's the fifth city to serve as capital for the state of Georgia.
One of the cities two airports, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, is considered one of the busiest airports in the world.
They celebrated Joan Baez Day on August 2, 1975.
It's the home to Ted Turner.
It's been nicknamed 'Hotlanta.'

It's often considered the capital of the Southern U.S.
Much of 'Gone With the Wind' took place in Atlanta.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born here.
It's been called a 'city of the future with strong ties to the past' and the 'city too busy to hate.'
Some corporate offices that are based out of Atlanta include Coca-Cola, the Weather Channel, CNN, Cartoon Network, Home Depot, UPS, Delta Airlines, BellSouth and TBS.
They elected the first African-American mayorof a major southern city, Maynard Jackson, Jr., in 1973.
They have one team from each of the four major sports.
