Why he might be annoying
He planted false stories in New Hampshire newspapers accusing Senator Edmund Muskie's wife of heavy drinking.
He forged letters from the Muskie campaign claiming that Senator Henry 'Scoop' Jackson had fathered a child out of wedlock with a 17-year old.
Another forged letter claimed that Hubert Humphrey had been arrested for drunk driving while in the company of a call girl.
He hired Karl Rove to infiltrate Democratic organizations.
Bob Haldeman said, 'My approval of [Segretti's] hiring was certainly one of my major mistakes.'
Why he might not be annoying
He served in the Army with the Judge Advocate General corps.
He tried to run for Superior Court judge in Orange County, California, but withdrew after a week, saying the shadow of Watergate hung over the campaign (1995).
He served as Orange County co-chair for the John McCain campaign (2000).
