Why he might be annoying:

He was disqualified from 'American Idol' after producers discovered his criminal record (2003).
He was charged with assaulting four police officers and his sister, as well as endangering a child (2002).
He claimed that he had an affair with 'Idol' judge Paula Abdul in 'The Globe' magazine.
He alleged that Abdul offered to select which songs he performed on 'Idol' and gave him 'style' tips.
He also claimed that Abdul offered to put up $2 million of her own money to launch his career if he did not win on 'Idol.'
Critics say he came forward with these allegations to promote his new book and new album (2005).
Arrested for trespassing and violating a court order by visitinhg his in-law's home in Yuma, Arizona (July 24, 2006).

Why he might not be annoying:

Legendary Motown lyricist Lamont Dozier compared him to a young Smokey Robinson.
Prior to 'American Idol,' he performed in a pop/r&b group called 'ANEW.'
