    He was cocky.
    He did ads for Actifed.
    He was the first person to catch a cold in space.
    His Gemini 6A mission failed to complete it's mission of docking with Gemini 6.
    He was a member of the Sigma Phi fraternity and even incorporated 'Sigma' into his Mercury mission title.
    He could fly a plane at age 15.
    He graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
    He served his country in World War II and in the Korean War.
    He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster for his service in Korea.
    President John Kennedy presented him with the US Distinguished Service Medal.
