    He spent most of his early life working on campaigns for fellow Democrats, but, became a Republican after meeting George W. Bush (1997).
    He called his switch to the Republican Party a 'mid-life awakening.'
    He moved to Nashville to become a songwriter, but was 'wildly unsuccessful.'
    As editor of the Daily Texan, he was jailed for not giving police unpublished pictures from a student protest at the University of Texas.
    He broke his collarbone and knocked himself unconscious after taking a nasty spill while bike riding with George W. Bush.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He attended the University of Texas.
    He served on the board for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
    He got a tattoo in honor of Pat Tillman.
    He supports campaign finance reform, which is unpopular with many fellow Republicans.
    After working with the McCain campaign during the 2008 primaries, he left because he did not want to be responsible for making negative ads about future President Barack Obama.
