    Produced 'The Sheik' (1921), 'Beyond the Rocks' (1922), 'Beau Geste' (1926), 'The Last Command' (1928), 'Innocents of Paris' (1929), 'Sergeant York' (1941), 'The Adventures of Mark Twain' (1944) and 'Rhapsody in Blue' (1945)

    He was practically bald by the time he was thirty.
    In his twenties, he lost his entire savings after joining the gold rush to Alaska and coming up empty-handed.
    He lost $100,000 on a nightclub he opened in New York, which proved to be a financial fiasco.
    His professional partnership with Mary Pickford was short-lived.
    He was blamed for the near-collapse of Paramount in the Depression years, resulting in his being ousted from his leadership role in 1932.
