Why New Delhi, India might be annoying
It is in a desert.
It has horrendous smog.
It has above-ground sewage.
It has congested traffic.
New Delhi consists mainly of the government area, which was mostly built by the British.
Old Delhi is filled with slums and filthy streets.
The streets are swarmed with peddlers and panhandlers.
People bring cows into the city.
Although this is a major city, the electricity goes out frequently.
Visitors are advised not to ride the transit buses.
Thieves allegedly pay off the cops, before robbing and killing a rich person.
A common joke is that unlike other cities, where a cop knows about a murder after it is committed, a Delhi cop knows about a murder several hours before it even occurs.
Why New Delhi, India might not be annoying
Like Washington, DC, the city is not part of any state.
It is home to one of the IIT campuses.
Jawharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, and Delhi School of Economics are other renowned Indian institutions here.
It is easier to find housing in Delhi than in other major Indian cities.
The government section of the city has underground sewage (surprise, surprise).
The Ba’Hai Temple (Lotus Temple) was built in the similar style as the Sydney Opera House.
The city is home to Qutab Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Connaught Place, and Red Fort.
Agra (home of the Taj Mahal) is a 3-4 hour drive from there (short distance, but too many back roads).
‘Monsoon Wedding’ took place in Delhi.
The city has been of historical significance to both Muslims and Hindus.
