His mother was a one time singer for the Metropolitan Opera House chorus in New York City.
He played at the original Woodstock as a member of Sha Na Na.
He is an animal lover and has raised many dogs and cats.
He owned an Irish Setter named Shannon and discovered his friend Carl Wilson has lost his Setter, also named Shannon, which inspired the song.
'Shannon' reached #6 on Billboard's Singles chart in 1976 and went platinum.
He's written songs for Ronnie Milsap, Cyndi Lauper and Judy Collins and penned the hit song 'Big Guitar' for country group Blackhawk.
