Wrote 'The Elements of Style,' a manual for writing
Why he might be annoying
Despite being an accomplished essayist, most people only remember him for his children's books.
He said that writing was difficult and not good for someone's disposition.
He began writing 'Stuart Little' to amuse his young niece, who was a grown adult by the time he finished.
He was extremely shy about speaking in public, often having others talk for him.
He received several honorary degrees.
Why he might not be annoying
He is internationally renowned for writing 'Charlotte's Web.'
He attacked segregation in his essay, 'The Ring of Time (1956).'
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S. (1963).
He was elected to the distinguished American Academy of Arts and Letters (1971).
He died of Alzheimer's disease (1985).
