    Wrote 'Barrack-Room Ballads,' 'Captains Courageous,' 'The Jungle Book,' 'The Absent-Minded Beggar,' 'The Man Who Would Be King,' 'Kim' and 'Rikki-Tikki-Tavi'
    Won the Nobel Prize for Literature (1907)

Why he might be annoying:

    He smoked pipes.
    He wrote an autobiography.
    His friends called him 'Ruddy.'
    He once visited Japan, where he constantly criticized the Japanese culture (then don't go there!).
    He was disliked by George Orwell.
    He was a racist, writing that all non-Westernized people were 'half devil, half child.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was beaten as a child by a cruel foster mother.
    He suffered from insomnia.
    His son died in World War I.
    He became a successful writer, although he has very poor eyesight.
    Many of his stories, such as 'The Jungle Book' and 'The Man Who Would Be King,' are literary classics.
