Why they might be annoying:

Some people think they perform 'Hey Sandy,' the theme song to the 'Adventures of Pete & Pete' but it was actually a similar sounding band, called 'Polaris.'
At first, they only toured in the Southern part of America.
Michael's on-stage behavior is strange and odd and he entered a bizarre phase at one point by putting on a lot of weight, bleaching his hair blonde and wearing tons of layers of clothing.
It took several years for their albums to finally make it to the charts.
After Bill announced his retirement from music, the band replaced him with a drum machine.

Why they might not be annoying:

They formed at a friend's party and they rehearsed in an old Episcopalian church.
People believe that they bought the back-to-the-garage movement to American underground music and are big hits on college radio.
When tours came around they had extreme medical problems. On the 'Monster Tour' Bill suffered a brain aneurysm and needed surgery, Mike had to undergo abdominal surgery to remove an intestinal tumor and a month later Michael had to have emergency surgery to remove a hernia.
Even though they had severe medical problems, the tours were a huge financial success.
They won 'Best Alternative Music Group,' 'Best Short Form Music Video' and 'Best Pop Duo or Group' at the 1991 Grammys.
They dedicated their album, 'Monster,' to River Phoenix, an actor who died from a drug overdose and who was a good friend of Michael's.
They've had numerous #1 hits and a lot of their albums have hit #1 on the charts.
Artists they are influenced by include Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, The Clash and The Byrds.
They helped influence a lot of artists including Nirvana, Live and Pavement.
