Circus Performer
    (October 7, 1893-July 30, 1937)
    Born in Hermoosillo, Mexico
Trapeze artist with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus
One of the first aerialists to perfect the triple somersault
Married to fellow circus aerialist (see pic) Lillian Leitzel (1928-31)
Committed murder-suicide with his third wife in a Long Beach divorce lawyer's office at age 43
    He was thrice married.
He was not even a year removed from his first marriage when he wed Leitzel.
    He had a violent temper.
After Leitzel's death, he became depressed and took risky chances on the trapeze.
He fell hard into the net many times and was forced to retire due to injury, becoming a Long Beach garage mechanic.
He shot Vera Bruce four times in front of her horrified mother, then put a bullet in his brain.
While he didn't invent the triple somersault, he was considered to be the 'triple king.'
He and his wife became star attractions at the circus and were dubbed 'King and Queen of the trapeze.'
He never fully recovered emotionally from the tragic death of Leitzel.
He was the stunt double for Johnny Weissmuller in the 1934 film 'Tarzan and His Mate.'
In 1961, he was inducted into the International Circus Hall of Fame.
He was one of the most consistent and graceful trapeze artists the circus has ever known.
