Why they might be annoying:

Matt Berninger's voice was once described as ' a combination between Ian Curtis and Rain Man.'
Their website does not contain the word national in any form, but is americanmary.com, named after a song from their first album. Lead vocalist Matt Berninger has stated that they should have changed the domain name.
One particular song, 'Mr. November,' was adapted as a slogan for Barack Obama's campaign despite the fact that it was written shortly after John Kerry lost his bid for the presidency.
Not only was an episode of One Tree Hill named after their song 'Racing Like a Pro,' but three other songs of theirs were used in that episode.
Their music was also heard on Gossip Girl and Chuck, as well as in a Google ad.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their albums usually are met with widespread acclaim.
'Fake Empire' was used during a video montage at both the final night of the 2008 Democratic National Convention and in a video prior to Barack Obama's Presidential victory speech.
In 2008, they were the first act on a tour with Modest Mouse and R.E.M..
