Her flight from Cheyenne took off in heavy rain and a sudden storm which contributed to the crash.
Her flight instructor decided they should take flight despite poor conditions and an unusually high altitude.
Many people think Jessica was manipulated and victimized by trusted adults and the media.
She died at a young age.

She and her family overcame severe financial hardship to eventually afford Jessica's flying lessons and continental flight costs.
She was a successful home schooled student.
She handled various life situations and responsibilities well, considering her age.
Her flight instructor may have been the actual pilot during the flight before the plane crashed.
She became a media darling doing a pastime she loved.
Her plane crash and its publicity led to Federal legislation regarding pilot certification and flying under special circumstances.
