The Resume

    Born in Kharkov, Ukraine
Tamara (May 10, 1937-April 26, 2021) won Olympic gold medals in shot put (1960,64) and discus (1964)
    Irina (March 10, 1939-February 21, 2004) won Olympic gold medals in 80-meter hurdles (1960) and pentathlon (1964)
Together set 26 track and field records in the 1960s

Why they might be annoying:

Even by the standards of Soviet bloc athletes, they looked mannish.
Detractors dubbed them the 'Press brothers.'
They were rumored to be hermaphrodites or to be taking male hormones.
They both resigned after gender verification became mandatory at international track and field events (1966).

Why they might not be annoying:

They were the first sisters to win gold medals at the same Olympics.
In 1962, Tamara held the eight best distances ever in shot put and the five best in discus.
None of the allegations against them have been substantiated, even as information about Soviet sports programs leaked out following the collapse of Communism.
