Outlaw
    (January 23, 1991- )
    Born in Domodedovo, Russia
    Con artist
Claimed to be a German heiress named Anna Delvey
Convicted of second-degree larceny, first-degree attempted grand larceny, and theft of services (April 25, 2019)
Sentenced to four to twelve years in jail, fined $24,000, and ordered to pay $199,000 in restitution (May 9, 2019)
She was penniless but claimed to have a €60 million trust fund in Europe that would cover her expenses.
She would get friends to cover her tab with a semi-plausible excuse about why she didn’t have cash or credit cards on her, then never get around to reimbursing them.
She ran up bills at exclusive hotels and never paid them.
She would deposit bad checks in bank accounts, then withdraw much of the money before the checks bounced.
She used fake documents to try to secure a $22 million loan.
She complained when the ‘New York Post’ called her a ‘wannabe socialite’: ‘I was never trying to be a socialite…. I wanted to be taken seriously.’
She rejected a plea deal that would have deported her to Germany, but spared her any jail time.
During her trial, she refused to show in court for several hours because she did not like her outfit.
In an interview from jail, she said, ‘I’d be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything.’
A ‘Vanity Fair’ profile described her as having ‘classical’ features.
She managed to keep up the deception for four years before getting busted.
As part of the ruse, she would tip generously. (The concierge at one of the hotels she stayed at noted, ‘People would fight to take her packages upstairs.’)
Shonda Rhimes and Lena Dunham both expressed interest in filming her story.
