The Resume

    (January 31, 1960- )
Lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland
Wrote, among many other works, 'The Invisibles,' 'New X-Men (Issues 114-154),' 'Doom Patrol,' 'Batman: Gothic,' and 'Batman: Arkham Asylum'

Why he might be annoying:

He writes avatars of himself into his books.
His works are notoriously difficult to understand.
'The Invisibles,' in particular, is so difficult to follow that a companion book, 'Anarchy for the Masses,' was written to make it more digestible.
He said, 'Whatever you do, make sure you go right to the top, because you sure as hell can't piss upwards on people.'
Not only has he had many drug experiences, but loves to talk about them and use them in his writings.
His dialogue is often unnecessarily wordy, elliptical, and twisted.
He does not speak highly of other established comics writers, such as Tom DeFalco and Chris Claremont.
He gets angry when people tell him that they can't understand his work.
He sticks to publishing and being interviewed in obscure media, which is vexing to new fans.
He is often advertised in skate and punk zines, so it looks like his work is geared to a small audience.

Why he might not be annoying:

'The Invisibles' is thick with obscure religious and occult references, showing the remarkable extent of Morrison's research.
His work rewards re-reading and analysis.
He tries to show that comics are accessible to a mainstream adult audience.
He strives for originality (and succeeds) in an industry that often encourages quite the opposite.
He plans his runs on continuing comics from beginning to end before writing them, so that plot twists are more believable.
In 1999, he almost died of pneumonia and septicemia (blood poisoning).
Fans and other comic writers (such as Mark Millar and Warren Ellis) both speak very highly of Morrison's work.
He practices as a magician and musician/DJ.
He is considered by many to be a prominent counter-culture figure.
He is extremely well-read and well-traveled.
Although a Scottish comic book writer, he appeared in Entertainment Weekly's 'Top 100 Creative People in America' (1997).
He is a huge Beatles fan.
