    He was filmed holding a sign which read 'Obama Osama and Chelsea's Moma' at a McCain rally.
    He was at the forefront of the Republican movement to impeach Bill Clinton.
    Hardline conservatives called him 'Lindsey Grahamnesty' for his moderate position on immigration.
    He notably asked Samuel Alito if he was a 'bigot' during Alito's confirmation hearing as a way of mocking concerns Democrats had about Alito.
    A bachelor well into his 50's, there was considerable speculation about his sexual orientation.
    He graduated University of South Carolina Law School.
    He served as a lawyer in the Air Force (1982-1988), then joined South Carolina's Air National Guard.
    He drew praise for grilling Donald Rumsfeld with tough questions regarding Abu Ghraib.
