Why he might be annoying:

At age 14, he became a teacher of a Quaker school.
He kept a diary (not a journal, mind you, but a sissy diary.)
Because of him, physics and chemistry became more boring and a Hell of a lot harder.
He looked like an aged John Lennon.

Why he might not be annoying:

His diary included some of the most important writings in the field of science.
He pioneered theories about trade winds, the contents of aurora borealis, and the concept of a dew point.
He shares a name with John Dalton, bassist for The Kinks.
