Why he might be annoying:

He behaved badly as a student, once biting the fingers of a teacher for suggesting he share his lunch.
    He was married 5 times.
He had his first marriage annulled (1938-40) and ended his second after just 20 months (1941-43).
He refused to wrestle a tame lion for his Sampson role for fear of being bitten.
When Cecil B. DeMille told him the lion didn't have any teeth, he replied: 'Yeah? Well, I don't want to be gummed to death either.'
Having been turned down for a membership to a country club because they didn't accept actors, he stated: 'I'm not an actor - and I've got 67 films to prove it!'
Of his acting ability, he stated: 'I took acting five times as seriously as anyone else. I just couldn't show it. Some kind of complex, I guess.'
He retired to Rancho Santa Fe, California in the '60s where he played golf, bragging about playing four hours a day, six days a week.

Why he might not be annoying:

His sister died in her infancy and his older brother died when he was just 11.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II at Normandy, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Okinawa when the A-bomb was dropped on Japan.
He dated such film legends as Betty Grable, Lana Turner and Rita Hayworth.
He was a favorite of the Hollywood press, making himself readily available for interviews and displaying a candid sense of humor.
He said of landing biblical roles he owed his success to the ability to 'make with the holy look.'
He never became full of himself, stating of acting in general: 'If you're so concerned about fucking privacy, don't become a fucking actor!'
He invested in real estate and retail stores wisely, enabling him to retire comfortably in the '60s.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
