World Leader

The Resume

    (April 3, 1930-June 16, 2017)
Born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany
Chair of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) political party (1973-98)
Chancellor of West Germany (1982-90) and reunited Germany (1990-98)

Why he might be annoying:

He admitted to secretly accepting over a million dollars worth of illegal donations to the CDU (1999).
His second wife was 35 years his junior.
His 300+ pound weight prompted Bill Clinton to joke at a NATO summit, 'I was thinking of you last night, Helmut, because I watched the sumo wrestling.' (Perhaps worried about insulting an ally, Clinton added, 'You and I are the biggest people here and we're still 100 pounds too light.')

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the longest-serving German Chancellor since Otto von Bismarck.
He was one of the main architects of German reunification and the Maastricht Treaty that created the European Union.
He was only the second person named an Honorary Citizen of Europe (1998).
George H. W. Bush called him 'the greatest European leader of the second half of the 20th century.'
