When accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award, he called Prince Charles a 'little grovelling bastard' on live television (1994).
His tombstone bares the epitaph 'I told you I was ill.'
He was interviewed on an Australian news broadcast and remained in the studio when they read off the news, adding his own name to various news items.
He wrote poetry.
He was an animal rights activist.
Most of his film appearances are cameos.

He was voted the 'funniest person of the last 1000 years' by a BBC poll.
He signed on to play a serious role in the British play 'Oblomov' based on a book by Ivan Goncharov. He intended to play his role seriously but the play was not successful until he started to ad lib.
He was a skilled musician.
When touring in Yugoslavia, he joined a local Communist party in order to receive a free meal.
He said, 'World peace could be a possibility... if it weren't for all those damned foreigners!'
He said, 'The fondest memory I have is not really of the Goons. It's of a girl called Julia with enormous breasts.'
He received an honorary knighthood (2000).
He was the one who came up with the Vera Lynn ending in 'Dr. Strangelove.'
